Church of San Mariño de Cores

In the parish of Cores we find this building, which in itself is a testimony that goes back a thousand years in the past. Although remodeled many times, its original structure dates from the 9th century CE and its origin is Romanesque. Such an assertion is clear from a female figure carved in the head of the church and that it is related to “cunha deusa preromana da fertilidade”. This is read on the panel. Other objects can be seen on display, such as a sundial in the old sacristy.

O Roncudo Viewpoint and Lighthouse

The lighthouse, which is barely 11 meters high, was named after the noise of the wild waves breaking against the cliffs. The protagonist, of course, is the ocean and its impressive strength. But we also find the white crosses that tell a story. They have been erected in memory of some barnacles, who, at the risk of their lives, collect the barnacle, a shellfish coveted for its flavor, directly from its natural habitat. The rocks of the cliffs where they hang from a rope moving to start the prized delicacy while they weather the winds and avoid the high tide.

In Gondomil, there is the Pedra da Serpe, of which its exact antiquity is not known. It is shaped like a snake and in some way it is the testimony of a forgotten civilization.

Visit the Abandoned Village of Candelago in Corme

Its location is unbeatable. It is nestled in the mountains and yet the view of the sea is splendid. But all that remains is ruins and stone structures demolished by the passage of time. The vegetation has devoured what were once trails and the town awaits better times if someone dares to buy it and give it a second wind.
