There is definitely a lot to see in Malpica de Bergantiños. Whale fishing had its peak in the seventeenth century, but the villagers knew how to adapt to new times and today the completely modernized fishing industry continues to be the protagonist. Its pleasant climate remains between 15 and 22 degrees C in the summer.
The council is part of the Costa Da Morte and its emblematic Lighthouse in Punta Nariga is part of the lighthouse route.

Malpica is one of the appropriate councils to understand the form of distribution of the settlement in Galicia thanks to how most of the councils of the Costa da Morte are located.

Malpica offers us a landscape full of houses on all sides, which are connected to roads or small paths that make a very compact town in itself. We cannot forget the professions to be highlighted in this council, and being next to a port, fishing cannot be missed, which has given hundreds of years food and money to the shellfishmen of the area to be able to feed their families.

Punta Nariga Lighthouse

This lighthouse is the most modern in the region, having been built in 1988. Its design resembles a ship, beginning with a triangular base evoking the bow of a boat prepared to sail the sea on which a stone square rests from where the 39-meter-high cylinder of the lighthouse rises, as if it were the mast. Thus, challenging the Atlantic, we find a bronze sculpture between human and bird ready to advance. Many interpretations have been given to the sculpture of the artist Manolo Coia, but the most accepted is that it is an Atlantean.

Mens Towers

Very close to Porto Do Fondo, in the parish of Mens, just 9 kilometers from Malpica, we find this fortress dating from the fifteenth century. The imposing towers are surrounded by a stone wall. In total there are three square towers and a house. Its destruction in it in 1467 was followed by centuries of neglect. It passed into private hands in the late twentieth century. In fact, in 1993 this reconstruction earned him the Europa Nostra award. In the distance, we can see its imposing image.

The port of Malpica bustles with activity and in the bars and restaurants in the area, fish and shellfish are the permanent protagonists. Delight in the wind, waves and sea at Playa Área Maior

Also called Maior de Malpica, this white sand beach is easily accessible, either on foot, by bus or by car. This is because it is located in the middle of the urban area, close to the port.

Malpica - San Adrián directions

One of the most popular religious traditions of the Malpica council. Every June, San Adrián goes out in a procession carried on the shoulders of the faithful. It departs from the Parish Church of San Julián de Malpica on a 4-kilometer journey along the coast to the Church of Cabo San Adrián. There the saint spends the day and pilgrims, believers and penitents who have offered promises celebrate all day. At dusk the procession returns with the saint again to the Church of San Julián, until the following year.
