What to see in Coristanco

Coristanco

The Council of Coristanco is part of the Bergantiños region. It is a rural area surrounded by vegetation, with the Anllóns river as the protagonist throughout the entire council. It is at a distance of 40 kilometers from La Coruña, a journey of approximately 32 minutes by car. The rains are constant and the terrain favors the harvest especially of its potatoes, famous throughout Galicia. It is an ideal destination for visitors looking for a relaxing stay and is also favorable for outdoor activities. Its mountains are notorious for the height they reach, the highest of all being Monte Castelo at 569 meters.

About the area

It is the council that has the most corners to surprise the visitor and the tourist who comes to see it. The council is rich in natural spaces and contains country houses, stone crosses and granaries, not to mention the great gastronomy and the hospitable people it has.

In natural spaces we highlight the green refuge, a place full of peace to observe and discover how the mills worked, which being in perfect condition you can see their operation. They also have benches and picnic areas to spend an afternoon with family or friends and enjoy a good meal outdoors. The churches of Coristanco can stand out for many details, but if they stand out for something they are the beautiful bell towers they contain.

Among the places with a mandatory stop is the Lubiáns Bridge, a Roman bridge full of nature that connects with the municipalities of Carballo and Coristanco.

Do the Anllóns River route to Ponteceso

Hiking fans will love this 16-kilometer walk through the municipality bordering the river and through small forests while marveling at the natural beauties.

Remember that you must wear comfortable clothing and slippers, as there are slippery areas on the route.

The tour begins in the Green Fishing Reserve, and if the tour has not been done before, it is a delight to be able to pass its bridges while the river transforms from calm to impetuous in areas where there are rapids and waterfalls. Throughout the territory of Coristanco we can observe the flora, especially if the route is made in spring. After passing a slippery and narrow stretch, we are walking in the land of Ponteceso. The river is not always visible, as the route passes through farmland. Outstanding stops are the laurel forest, the Corcoesto and Anllóns Hydroelectric Power Plants that take advantage of the river flow and finally we arrive at Ponte da Garga, a recreational area that will allow us to rest before returning. It is recommended to take a taxi back to Verdes.
