What to see in Corcubión
Corcubion
Corcubión is a small concello (town hall) of La Coruña and is part of the Finisterre region. A seaside town at first glance and one of the most beautiful councils in the area, from the tour of its historic center, its ancient buildings, to its beaches. There are many visitor options when choosing what to see in Corcubión .
About the area
Corcubión was the obligatory place of passage for pilgrims, after visiting Santiago de Compostela, and they continued the route to Fisterra.
In 1809, the towns of Cee and Corcubión were one of the towns most attacked by the French, and due to the situation of the villagers, they decided to build the Cardenal Castle next to the estuary, which with the Prince’s Castle in Cee could cut the passage of boats through the estuary and thus defend against attacks.
Corcubión has a rocky coastline, except in the section that corresponds to the estuary, where Quenxe beach appears and then the port of the town.
This beautiful beach is used to sunbathe and spend the day with family or friends with magnificent views of the estuary.
This council, as it has a port, cannot be talked about without mentioning fishing as an important profession in Corcubión, and today it is still in use thanks to the abundant fishermen in the area, who are the villagers themselves.

What to see in Corcubión

The historic center of Corcubión
Its urban area is very close to the town of Cee. But walking through its streets we seem to be in a paradox. The structures date from the 18th century and are very well preserved. Some streets are cobbled and you can admire the pazos (stately homes) of notorious families of the time. The funny thing is to observe the modern improvements to windows and doors that pleasantly surprise us.

Seno de Corcubión Maritime Museum
Located on the disused land of the salting factory, next to Quexe Beach, it has more than a thousand pieces on display.
It is basically a compilation of the heritage that the maritime activity of Costa da Morte has generated. In addition to navigation instruments in its various rooms we can see engines, scale boats, machinery and old plans. The museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday.

Church of San Marcos de Corcubión
It was built in a sailor gothic style. The church dates from the fourteenth century, but subsequent renovations in the nineteenth century due to a lightning strike altered its original architecture of the façade and bell tower. Currently and due to its age, the church is valued as an asset of cultural interest.

Cardinal Castle
Its construction began in the eighteenth century, as a response to the looting pirates who found their way through the estuary. It was a pair with the Castillo del Príncipe, in the neighboring town of Cee, on the other side of the estuary. These military fortifications repelled the invaders by crossfire. It had the capacity for almost a hundred men and 12 guns.

Things to do in Corcubión

Try a different cuisine at Restaurant Mar de Crebas
Located on Rúa Santa Isabel, between Corcubión and Cee, we find this pleasant restaurant with a menu that adapts to the product of the day’s catch. Diners have the option of taking an outdoor table and tasting the Chef’s appetizing dishes while looking out over the cove. Innovative cuisine and first class service and they are also very careful with biosecurity measures.

Spend a relaxing day at Playa Quexe
You can get to Quexe beach easily, by car, by bus or even on foot. It is a popular urban beach for its white sand and calm waters. It is equipped with basic hygiene and cleaning services. Nearby is the promenade, restaurants, yacht club and children’s area.

Have a few drinks at Pub La Gavilla
In the heart of Corcubión we found this establishment that works in a stone house. Inside, just have the first beer to be imbued with the local spirit. Good music and a festive atmosphere in which the hours will fly by. They open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 6:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
